How to get from the Dolomites to Ljubljana by bus

To get from the Dolomites to Ljubljana by bus, start with a trip to a major hub—Bolzano or Trento (1–2 hours from most resorts). From there, take a flight to Udine (3–4 hours). In Udine, you’ll need to change buses to Ljubljana (another 2–2.5 hours). Taking into account waiting times and transfers, the total travel time is 8–10 hours. Cons: all information (schedules, announcements) is in Italian, creating a language barrier. Buses have limited luggage space: skis, snowboards, or large suitcases can be inconvenient. During the off-season, some buses are canceled, and intervals between buses can reach 4–5 hours, especially on weekdays.

How to get from the Dolomites to Ljubljana by train

You can reach Ljubljana by train, although there is no direct connection from the Dolomites. First, take a bus to Bolzano (1–2 hours). From there, a train to Udine takes 2.5–3 hours.
